Questions people ask

Including the ones with awkward answers. If something here is not what you wanted to read, it is still what is true.

Getting started

What is ZenvaPay?

A naira wallet you fund once and spend everywhere. Airtime and data on every network, electricity tokens, cable TV, WAEC, NECO and JAMB PINs, and crypto — all from the same balance, in one app.

Is ZenvaPay a bank?

No, and we do not claim to be. ZenvaPay is an orchestration platform: the rails underneath belong to licensed providers, and we sit on top of them running the wallet, the record-keeping and the risk controls.

Our own licence applications are in progress. Until they land, every regulated leg of a transaction is performed by a partner who holds the licence for it.

What do I need to sign up?

An email address or a phone number, and a password. That gets you an account and a wallet.

Verification comes later and only when you need it: anything irreversible — crypto, exam PINs, airtime, sending naira out — is gated behind identity checks, because those are the transactions nobody can undo if the account turns out not to be yours.

Money and rates

What does it cost?

Adding money to your wallet is free. Sending naira out to a bank account costs a flat ₦50.

Airtime, data, bills and exam PINs are sold at face value — you pay what the line is worth, and nothing is added on top.

On crypto, the rate on the board is the whole price. There is no separate commission underneath it and nothing appears at checkout that was not on the page.

Why is your rate different from the price on a crypto exchange?

Because those are different numbers. An exchange shows a market mid-price — the midpoint between what buyers are bidding and what sellers are asking. Nobody actually trades at it.

What we publish is the price we will actually sell to you at, which is the only number you can act on. We would rather show you that than quote something we do not honour.

Is the rate I see the rate I get?

Yes. The rate is locked the moment you start the order and held while you confirm, so a move in the market between those two points is ours to absorb rather than yours.

Where is my money actually held?

In a double-entry ledger, which is the same technique a bank uses and the reason we can always tell you where a kobo went. There is no balance field anywhere in this system: your balance is calculated by adding up every entry that has ever touched your account.

Customer money and the float we use to pay providers are separate accounts with separate funding. Topping up a provider out of pooled customer balances is the specific mistake that ends companies in this business, and the ledger is built so it cannot happen quietly.

When something goes wrong

What happens if a payment gets stuck?

It goes into a state we call indeterminate, and then a reconciler — not a person, and not a retry — asks the provider what actually happened until it gets a definite answer.

We deliberately do not refund you automatically, and we do not retry the purchase. A provider timing out does not mean the purchase failed; it means we do not yet know. Refunding on a timeout is how somebody ends up paying for the same JAMB PIN twice.

You will see the transaction sitting in progress rather than failed, and it resolves one way or the other without you having to chase it.

Will ZenvaPay ever ask for my PIN, password or OTP?

Never — not by phone, not by SMS, not in a chat, not by email. Anyone who asks you for one is not us.

We also never put a code in a Telegram message, and our emails never contain a link for you to click to sign in. If you get one that does, it did not come from us.

How do I reach a person?

Through the contact form. It goes to a mailbox a human opens, and you get a reply to the address you give us.

Crypto and gift cards

Which coins can I buy?

Whatever is on the board. The rates page lists every asset we can price right now, and if something is missing from it we are not quoting it today.

Can I sell crypto back to you?

Not yet. Buying works today; selling is being built, and we would rather say so than put a button on the page that fails at the last step.

Can I buy a gift card on ZenvaPay?

Not yet. Gift cards are coming, and they will appear on the rates board the day they are ready.

ZenvaPay does not buy gift cards from customers — we sell them. If somebody offers to trade you cash for a card in our name, it is not us.

Still stuck?

The contact form reaches a person, and they reply to the address you give. There is no queue number and no bot in between.
